A group of well-dressed individuals catches Rian’s attention, and as we approach, the air thickens with expectation. They greet him with knowing smiles, eyes gleaming with intrigue. One of them—a tall man with sharp features—leans in, speaking with a practiced casualness that belies the tension in the air.

“Rian Caldwell, I believe,” he says, extending a hand. “I’m Alden Sorin. Congratulations on your successful acquisition. I must say, you’ve done quite well for yourself.”

Rian shakes his hand, his demeanor smooth and confident. “Thank you. She’s exceptional.”

Alden’s smile widens, and he gestures for Rian to follow him further into the gathering. He leads us into a smaller room off the main ballroom. There’s a much smaller group of people here—representatives from only five of the families. My father stands with somebody I don’t recognize, and they whisper softly to one another.

“We’ve been discussing the prospects of acquiring more omegas, and I wanted to see how serious you are about expanding your collection. Given your success tonight, we would love to have you at another meeting in a month’s time.”

I feel a shiver run down my spine at the thought of more omegas being brought into this world, but Rian’s response is measured and calculated. “I’ll consider it,” he replies, the undertone of his voice suggesting that he’s weighing his options carefully.

As the conversation continues, I glance over to where Kael stands across the room. He’s surrounded by a few prominent figures, including his father. Their interaction seems tense, words exchanged under the guise of pleasantries but laced with unspoken challenges. Kael’s body language is closed off, and even from a distance, I can feel the unease radiating off him.

I shift closer to Rian, seeking the comfort of his presence, but my heart races at the sight of Kael. What’s happening between them? Are they really okay? My thoughts spiral as I try to decipher the expressions on Kael’s face and the tightness in his posture.

“Are you alright?” Rian asks softly, his voice cutting through my anxious thoughts. I meet his gaze, and the warmth in his eyes reminds me to focus on him.

“Yes. I’m just...I’m worried about Kael,” I admit, glancing back at my friend, speaking so low that nobody but him can hear. “He seems off.”

Rian follows my gaze, and a frown creases his brow. “He’s handling his own challenges. But we’re here for each other, Elysia. Remember that.”

Just then, Kael’s father turns to him, a smirk playing on his lips as he hands Kael an invitation of his own. “I’d like you to consider expanding our...family connections as well, son. You did well tonight, much to my surprise. Perhaps it’s time to think about securing a partner for yourself.”

The weight of the moment hangs heavily in the air, and I can see Kael’s jaw tighten. He nods, but I can sense the tension beneath the surface. The looks exchanged between them speak volumes, and it leaves me unsettled. Invitation in hand, Kael storms out of the room.
